When I dare to be powerful

When I dare to be powerful

“When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.” — Audre Lorde

A mother or father will step into the fire without thinking about themselves to save a child.

When we are wittnesses to abuse in a public space, those of us who hold justice as greater than self, will step into the fray fearlessly.

When we watch live streamed genocide and fear to speak, or see an image of a man being violently held to the ground by ICE agents and find an excuse for the righteousness of this, our lack of action based on fear says more about who we are.

The Source of finding the courage to act comes from our inviolate values.

The fear that stops us from moving in life affriming directions stems from a disconnection to what we dare to care enough about.

Fear = not caring enough to step past our petty thinking – for example, what would they think of me if I did this.

To transcend this, first name what matters most in the world to you. Live your life in the framework of these values and principles.

This allows us to look into the mirror and like and respect who we are.

December 11th 2025 A few relational frames that matter A few relational frames that matter Every action has an effect. Do we consider the effect when we take the action? We are responsible for the effect as much as we are for the action. The majority of people and enterprises refuse to take responsibility. People write their own story. When we are younger, we are unaware that we have inherited scripts from others – parents, influencers and now algorithms, that are not our real story. Part of...

December 10th 2025 On Death On death My father’s wife passed yesterday. I was the one who gave him the news. My relationship with death vacillates, as I imagine it would for many people. Yet each night we long to sleep a deep and dreamless sleep, a mini death. Sinking into no thing land. Non-existence. There is a beauty there. When I worked as a medical student in the anatomy labs, surrounded by the dead, working on the dead to understand human anatomy, I would wonder about the animating...

December 9th 2025 Why big business needs regulation Why big business needs regulation Before our surfing holiday to Taiwan, I rang EVA Air to check their surfboard policy before booking the ticket. I was not clear about what was on the website, and I wanted to confirm that our boards would be cleared to travel. I spoke to an agent. As long as the linear length is under 277 cms, we would be OK. Given my board is 233.6 cm, I believed that all was well. (A Google search of linear length = The...
