My heart is heavy this morning

My heart is heavy this morning

I read about the public version of Trump’s National Security Strategy, and the white supremacist, fascist sentiment it expresses, and I feel sick to the stomach.

What is European? What is America? What is Australia?

Are any of these things fixed states?

Am I a fixed state? Are you?

Are we not all ever changing? Is our desperate clinging to some mythical past state a longing for something no past can restore?

Life, this glorious, remarkable animating force that is life, where awe is all that is possible when we pause long enough to contemplate life, does not begin with some life as less worthy.

The miracle of life is where Gods are found. This is the reverence, the holy, the wholly.

But we forget. And breed hate, cruelty and supremacy.

In the surf this morning, dolphins caught their waves, jumping so high out of the water, clearly in a state of exuberant play. Everyone in the surf watching was yelling with delight and joy at being such close witnesses to this reminder of precious.

Yet our children – if they are born to the ‘wrong’ people, or in the wrong place – we starve them, bomb them, rape them, shoot them. Mothers and fathers seeking better for their children at high risk, trying to escape a world created deliberately by the same men who believe in white supremacy, are treated as garbage.

Our land, waters and forests are seen as resources to be extracted from with callous disregard.

Where did these men lose their humanity? How much hate can a heart bear?

Sometimes it is just too much.

I gather my reserves, lift my head, and reach out to you and us and those who know there is enough for all, and that the sacredness of all life is worth living for in every possible way.

We must fortify each other. And return to the fray.

December 7th 2025 Choices. Intersections. Mistakes Choices. Intersections. Mistakes My little dog sleeps at my feet. One of our chickens, Lilly, just laid an egg and, in her usual fashion, is telling the world how wonderful she is, chortling away. The heat that was going to arrive has gratefully been swept into clouds, the threat of storms now imminent. Our weather is topsy-turvy. A reflection of the state of the world. Careful plans have been frayed. We wait, in death’s antechamber, for the...

December 6th 2025 Pollute the beautiful game Pollute the beautiful game FIFA is corrupt to the bone. A game that is loved on the streets of the favelas of Rio, in the dry dirt of the Moroccan desert, and in the ruins of Palestine, is now captured by politics that know only greed and cruelty. If we are to look at the pop culture representation of capture by corruption, we might look to the beautiful game. The people who suffer under the weight of Empire, kleptocracy and colonisation, those who...

December 5th 2025 Holding it all together Holding it all together Or not. Sometimes we cannot hold it all together. It is too much. Emotions take space, and our biology has a limited amount of space. Squeezing emotions into a closed space will not work. Emotions will leak out and spill. This is why we cry, and laugh. And rage. Because we have to move the emotions from our inner space to open up for different. My emotions are brewing like a pot of chickpeas, about to burst the pot lip. Into...
