The foundation of everything I do
There is a wonderful gift that comes with reaching a later stage of life.
And that is to care less and less about what people think of you.
At the same time, a clarity accelerates about who we really are, a fearlessness to be fully wholly ourselves.
The following is the foundation of everything I do, no matter the form. Teach. Write. Befriend. Create. Bake. Love. Everything is anchored here.
It is why I write what I write about. Teach what I teach. Live my life. Stay silent or speak up. Get mad. Flounder in grief. Build things. Help others. Speak up against oppression, violence, injustice, hypocrisy, deceit, cruelty and hate. Rage. Rage and rage. Love. And love more.
These are in no particular order and are by no means exhaustive.
Integrity – to be aligned in wholeness, no dissonance. To be my word, to myself and others. To speak the truth even if it is hard.
Justice – for all. Not just for some, or the few, or the exceptional. Equal justice. Not just for people, for Earth and all her creatures. This means rules apply to everyone or no one. An international court of justice is for everyone, or no one.
All life is sacred. Not just some lives. All life.
Put people in a healthy context, and they will almost always respond with dignity towards their fellows. A context of fear, scarcity, injustice, inequality, violence and hate seeds the same. Many people do bad things because they are in a context, often created by others, that enables bad actions. Change the system, change the context, people change.
The power to choose how we respond to everything is our greatest power. No one can take this from us unless we grant permission.
Our Earth, Nature, biology, life are miraculous. Eternally unexplainable. Undefinable. Unable to be captured in their entirety in zeros and ones. AI will not win. It is the unexplainable, immeasurable that ensures we find awe. Without awe, we are entropic, dead in lag.
Every living being, every thing, all, is interdependent. To consider that we do not depend on a healthy living everything is to exercise human hubris. To fail to account for the value and contribution of everything, including Nature, is to forget our total dependence on a healthy Earth. We pay the price of our lack of accounting here, now, in this moment and in our tomorrow.
Our individual and collective failure to hold ourselves and others to account, to integrity, in service to all life, is our failure to generate a healthy world tomorrow. We can commit to begin today.
We are all under the spell of stories and myths that will prove to be false. Given this, we might practice remaining open of mind and heart, knowing that the moment we declare we are right is the moment we have eliminated emergence and growth. In this moment, we have chosen righteousness, superiority, separation and arrogance. We have denied life, which is forever changing.
Making mistakes is the best way to learn. Make more mistakes, and, before we take an action, consider the all-in-consequences.
Love is the field. Love is always present. It is only our illusion of separation that denies access to love.
The power to act has always been with the people. Coordinated, non-violent protest reaching a critical mass of 3.5% of the population will tip the system. Against the backdrop of disempowerment, silencing and removal, stay active to the best of your ability.
Be the model. Everything we do, as individuals and as a collective or enterprise, must demonstrate the world we aspire to create in all things, if possible. Now.
Move your body. Eat well. Get enough rest. Have fun. Laugh. Dance. Learn a new skill. Take time out. Be in nature as much as possible. Take care of the temple of our biology. Invest in it as a primary investment.
Clean Communication – with ourselves and others – is a non-negotiable. (https://syntropic.world/avoiding-the-chasm-of-the-unspoken-clean-communication-an-essential-tool-to-live-lite/)
Zero exploitation, colonisation or extraction to extinction. We live and act with reverent reciprocity. This is a web greater than simple exchange. It begins with generosity, held in a structure that refuses giving as a sacrifice
Which of these do you resonate with? What would you add or remove from your life? Email me a reply, as I would love to know where we meet and where your brilliance and commitment are different and complementary.
