A little Oasis in a storm

A little Oasis in a storm

Yesterday, we became proud parents to four chickens. We have a lovely big yard, surrounded by bush, so they can roam all day. My partner, Tony, built what I call the Taj Chickal, a very secure safe haven for our chickens to sleep and feed.

Milly the dog, now deaf from age, was beside herself with excitement. At one point, we found her sitting guard after the chickens had gone to bed.

Hopefully, in a few days, when the chickens are allowed to roam, Milly and the chickens will become friends.

Our house is our sanctuary, surrounded by native bush, water, and bird life.

Not a day goes by that I do not feel overwhelmed with luck for this life.

A little Oasis in a storm.

Tony works in the garden, does the composting, grows vegetables, and now has chickens as a stress relief from working in a company that epitomises everything I rail against. Profit is the god, people are the machines of profit.

Each morning, I wake in the dark to the sounds of bats and creatures, stealing myself for the news feed.

Then we head to the beach, still in the dark, for either a walk or a surf, allowing the ocean to rinse out the infections of the world’s hate and horror.

Against everything, it is a healthy way to live. I am aware, in almost every moment, that I have this luxury when so many do not.

It is for this reason, and others, that I bear the responsibility of speaking up for those who cannot.

July 1st 2025 How shocking How shocking I love the grassroots movements of art, music and culture. Festivals have shocked the world. Woodstock is an example of counterculture for the boomer generation. The same generation reluctant to give up their entitlements to enable our youth a better future in 2025. Over this past weekend, we had Glastonbury in the UK. Claiming people are dangerous terrorists because they speak up against genocide is business as usual in many parts of the world,...

June 30th 2025 Empires fall Empires fall It is the law of gravity. What goes up comes down. In these last desperate days for the US Empire, all the patterns of demise are there. Greedy, vainglorious rulers who spit on the ‘common’ people. Capture by big money blinded by their historical black gold rise to wealth, dinosaurs in lag. Holding countries hostage, bullying the tactic of choice. Increasing disparity between the haves and have-nots. Desperate acts of violence to sway rogue countries...

June 28th 2025 Pardoning corruption Pardoning corruption Oh how far we have fallen. One corrupt leader seeks to force another corrupt leader’s country to pardon him. The White House produces a video, surely a parody, of daddy returning home, after a European ‘leader’ puts Trump and daddy in the same sentence. The sycophancy of global ‘leaders’ to appease daddy is disgusting. Oh for brilliant humanity, where art thou? Yet people who have done nothing criminal except seek a better life, people...
