There is a primal scream

There is a primal scream

Our bodies are as polluted as Earth. Every human, every living being, is infested with forever chemicals. The long-term effects of this are yet to materialise.

Our minds, caught in the context of media designed to swallow us whole and scrape every single ounce of attention from us, are pollution manufacturing machines. We spew toxicity freely, the guardrails of those who are supposed to lead are completely removed, so that anything goes. Hate. Vengeance. Cruelty. Par for the course.

The word detox has been appropriated as some mythic possibility. Detox from what?

Perhaps our desire to detox is so bone deep because we recognise the oceans of pollution that infest every area of life.

To pull back even a little is to exhale.

To find a sanctuary in Nature, to unplug and offline, these are yearnings for our polluted souls.

There is a primal scream. No. No more. Too much.

Our youth are speaking it out loud, saying they would prefer a world without internet and social media.

As digital life consumes us all, analogue is making a return.

(Or, one of the great American myths, the right to free speech, which is actually only a right for those in power and has never been a right for the suppressed.) “Hope Greta and her friends can swim.” Tweets Lindsay Graham. As if...

June 1st 2025 How far do we need to fall? How far do we need to fall? From Heather Cox Richardson. Internationally, Musk’s destruction of the United States Agency for International Development, slashing about 80% of its grants, is killing about 103 people an hour, most of them children. The total so far is about 300,000 people, according to Boston University infectious disease mathematical modeller Dr. Brooke Nichols. Ryan Cooper of The American Prospect reported today that about 1,500 babies...
