Synchronicity and Business

Synchronicity and Business

I was at an event hosted by a client a few weeks ago, and one of the speakers said, “We are an industry that believes in magic. Magic is an illusion.”

And in a world of straight lines (no such thing) and 5-year business plans, of a focus on activity, outcomes, targets, and the ‘bottom’ line, magic is indeed hard to find. I would also find this world simply intolerable to live in.

Synchronicity is a form of magic. It is defined as the simultaneous occurrence of events that appear significantly related but have no discernible causal connection.

It is the act of thinking about someone, and they call. Or deciding that you need to learn more about ‘x’ and suddenly the teacher appears.

I believe this world, where synchronicity and magic are normal operations, is constantly available and trying to get our attention. But we have blocked it out in our addiction to haste, busy, targets, goals, projections…where not a minute is spare to be spontaneous, live in the unknown, on the very edge of emergence.

Yet the more I allow space for the miraculous, unpredictable, synchronistic, the more it shows up. The more I allow creativity in all its unkempt forms, the more I am open to this other world. My imagination and creative intelligence are expanded, tapping into sources and places that defy rationalisation and neat packaging.

It is in this world that my genius is found. The world of daydreams, cloud drifting.

Sure, there is a place for linear focus, tasks, outcomes…perhaps a lesser place than we think.

When a miracle is called for, it is not found in the linear world of spreadsheets and bottom lines…it is found by tapping into the vast intelligence of which we are all a part. Stepping into the unknown, the uncertain, right off the edge.

Synchronicity is a matter of listening to the hum of another world, the one beneath the noise of our daily life. It is to this world I choose to give my primary attention, for here lies wisdom of the ages.

October 12th 2025 Cultivated fear Cultivated fear Cultivated fear turns us upon each other. And that is exactly what the powers want. The desire is for us to be afraid of the other. Those different to us. To stoke fear between humans is the weapon of choice and has been forever. The immigrant. The person of colour. Those wearing a different attire. ‘They’ are coming to take our rights, jobs, status. To knock us off the rung of the ladder of status we have spent so long climbing. ‘They’ are us...

Nothing to lose. Give it all. Live on the edge…creativity abounds. Figure out how to make it work with few, if any, resources. Day 2. Like the “Little train that could”…you think you can, you know you can…it seems to be working…keep going…still risky, still scary…still alive… Day 3. Hah…success…staff to pay,...

October 8th 2025 Confrontation and its complementary pair, truth Confrontation and its complementary pair, truth So many people are afraid of confrontation. Perhaps the anger projected back, or words spoken in ways that feel diminishing. Perhaps it is the desire to be liked, or right, or part of the team that has us avoid confrontation. Yet confrontation is a necessary part of life. To stand in front of something, and see it, hear it, digest it. Until we confront, we cannot move to learning,...
