A tangle of thoughts on a Monday

A tangle of thoughts on a Monday

I did not know there was a full moon eclipse until I was at the beach before dawn. What a wonderful surprise. I felt such a lucky witness.

Yesterday I walked into my coffee shop, where one of the advance copies of The Beauty of Beginnings is on display, and a regular visitor was reading a page and had tears streaming down her face.

Something I wrote stirred emotion within her. What a gift to witness.

We are doing some renovations on our home. Something I have not done before. We are doing this on a skinny budget, which means we are the labourers. The house is over forty years old.

My task has been to clean – meticulous, painstaking work. Restoring the window frames. Bathroom tiles. Preparing things for paint.

Witnessing the emergence of elements of a home through tender love and care, along with attention to detail, is such a joy.

My hands were so swollen from the scrubbing that I had to get into the ocean this morning, the water still chill enough, as I felt I needed to be soaked in cold water to counter the inflammation. It was the right instinct.

My surfing journey continues, this last week I am on a new board, a Birthday gift. It is a foot shorter than my previous board, and so much lighter. It feels wonderful, yet I have to learn the ways of the board, which takes time. I witnessed myself once again on the edge of the learning curve.

Against this backdrop of my days, I witness a world of such life destruction that often I find it hard to breathe without screaming.

It is only through the courageous acts of so many people who put their careers and lives at risk by speaking and acting up that I am fortified.

I watch and listen and act and learn.

The spark, curiosity, the intention, integrity, the act, love and care. It will take us all.

September 17th 2025 What breaks you and why this is the key to your strength What breaks you and why this is the key to your strength We all have our breaking points. Our soft underbelly. The places we can be shamed and humiliated. But their flavour and access points are usually different for each person. One person may be iron-willed at work, and a puddle of emotion at home. Another may be able to stand many human afflictions, but break when she sees an animal in pain. (That would be me.) To...

September 16th 2025 Heartbreak as the generator function of a Syntropic Business that cares Heartbreak as the generator function of a Syntropic Business that cares A broken heart is a powerful lever. From our broken hearts, we stand more fiercely, leaving behind the small play of mediocrity. So much has been written about living on purpose. Finding purpose. But what if your purpose is not so clear, or constantly moving? Go then with the heartache. Go where your heart breaks again and again....

Sepetmber 15th 2025 Making things Making things I have always been a maker and creator. As a child, crafts like crochet and sewing. The ever-present writing. Baking, learning the craft of alchemy of weird ingredients, an apprenticeship in synergy. Over the last six weeks, my partner and I have been renovating the downstairs section of our 43-year-old house. We had to replace the entire floor after the March cyclone event due to water damage. This triggered a full renovation, on a skinny – we...
