To build relational integrity

A system is a conceivable entity dividing Universe into two parts, the inside and the outside of a system. (except, of course, the part of the Universe doing the dividing.) R. Buckminster Fuller

​Bucky Fuller proposed that the minimum system in the Universe is the tetrahedron. Since there is no such thing as a plane, a triangle doesn’t cut it.

It is only when you add the fourth dimension that we have a structure with an inside and an outside.

A tetrahedron is also a model of integrity. It holds its shape. To test this, build a tetrahedron with toothpicks and jellybeans.

The minimum stable system in the Universe has four elements and six relationships.

But what does this mean?

On a practical level, if we want to honour a relationship, if the relationship matters to us – then together we consider the four key elements of the relationship. For example, the purpose of the relationship. The three values that we hold as inviolate.

This gives the relationship both shape and space.

Without these declared, we only have transaction.

Let’s say you and your partner are in an argument. Back and forth, back and forth, no space. It takes only one of you to remember and remind the other of the purpose of the relationship, or the values and principles you have declared.

Suddenly, the argument has space, dimension, and shape.

This is to build relational integrity, which is systemic.
