This is my masterpiece

This is my masterpiece

"Edit your life frequently and ruthlessly. It's your masterpiece after all.” Nathan W. Morris

I was thinking about this quote. Every life is a masterpiece simply by existing. Nature is brilliant, and so far, it evades our attempt to capture it in the binary of zeros and ones.

This is why I see the hubris and braggadocio of the techbros and their singularity addiction, or uploading their brain/consciousness to a computer, as untethered. We still haven’t identified where consciousness is. And may never be able to.

To go deep into human biology held in reflection of the incomprehensible galaxies upon galaxies that make up our Universe is to be rendered mute with awe.

To live is to be a masterpiece. Period.

Once upon a time, I was caught in the enculturated belief that I needed to be great, to do great things, to excel at something. To stand out and be celebrated for my masterpiece.

At this stage of my life, I prefer a quieter masterpiece.

Integrity. Uncompromising.

Treat my fellow creatures, humans and others, with dignity and respect.

Remain eternally curious and open.

Use my voice, any access or privilege I have, to speak for those less fortunate in privilege and access.

Express the full measure of my gifts and life experience in service to life to the best of my ability.

Stand resolute in the face of injustice to anyone or anything.

Love deeply. Laugh often. Dance in the kitchen.

This is my masterpiece.

And yes, I edit ruthlessly and often. To do this, as many of us discover as we age, gets easier and easier. Time becomes of essence.

How I spend my time, who I spend my time with, what I read, explore, seek to understand. The adventures I have.

Ultimately, to respect the gift of life I have, the opportunities afforded me by the nature of my birth, and the choices I have made. To move toward death with no regret, no shame, and a deep respect for my being.

October 9th 2026 When we offer support and are rejected When we offer support and are rejected You see someone struggling. You offer to help. They decline. You insist; they still decline your offer. Common scenario. What if the offer to help, support or assist is to a beloved? And later, they blame you for their stressful life. Or add these struggling circumstances to their list of stresses, and blame you for all of them. When we offer support or help, and we are rejected in our offer, then...

October 8th 2026 Dismissing simple because we are so smothered in complex Dismissing simple because we are so smothered in complex When our days feel like an assault of bad news, conflict, hardship, corrupted leadership and a seriously broken Molochian system, we might forget that some things are very simple. For many things, there are steps and habits that are simple, that when done with disciplined consistency, produce healthy results in the future. The morning routine - the frame that sets...

October 7th 2026 Framing and freedom Framing and freedom A frame is a structure that holds the parts together. It is an enclosing border. To frame a story is to set a context that allows the story to exist within the frame or context. When we seek to frame our lives, we might consider what structure is needed to allow the parts of us to hold together, to be in integrity. The frame might include the daily habits that support us. The values we hold non-negotiable. The relationships that are...
